I Want to Smoke

My boss walks in and says, ‘spend 10 million on digital marketing this quarter.’ Great. We have new budget, new targets and probably even new markets to explore as a result. The only problem is he expects instant results or thinks putting pressure will eventually attain those results faster. I am annoyed to say the least.

He is either sinning or pushing me to commit one. When you have to do something without believing it, isn’t it a sin.

Everyone agrees that results show when you have people enjoying what they do. Pressure or a rigid process has never benefited any firm in the long term. You don’t build great companies this way. The best you come close to is kill your good resources. Smoking in itself is not a sin, but if you are doing out of habit, then it is.

I hope to catch up with you next time when I am smoking.
